2009 Scholarship awarded to Greg Griffoul

The Allendale Chamber of Commerce held its May meeting at The Atrium in The Allendale Community for Mature Living on Tuesday evening, May 12.

The highlight of the meeting was the presentation of the first Allendale Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Award. The scholarship program was established to recognize and assist outstanding Northern Highlands Regional High School seniors who intend to pursue the study of business and/or retail and marketing at an institution of higher education.

The chamber invited applications from members of the senior class who have the appropriate qualifications and are enrolled in the DECA program at Northern Highlands. The Scholarship Committee comprised of Nicolette “Nickie” Lisella of Terrie O'Connor Realtors in Allendale, Adrienne Tenbekjian of Jumbleiah Memorabilia, Joe Staub of Staub Home Inspection and Mary Ellen Stiehl, M.A., Ed.S., Ph.D.

This year’s award of $1,000.00 went to Gregory Griffoul, an Allendale resident and a member of DECA since his sophomore year in 2006. Since that time he has received 1st, 2nd & 3rd place awards at the various DECA competitions. He also successfully created a small business called “GTech” a computer sales, repair & maintenance business.

Greg is a member of Boy Scout Troop 59 and has earned his Eagle Scout Rank; he has also earned the Silver and Bronze Palm. For his Boy Scout Eagle Project he refurbished & donated 65 computers to the less fortunate in Newark, NJ.

He has been on the Honor roll at Highlands each year since freshman year; he has earned a varsity letter in fencing all four years. He is a member of the National Honor Society, the Stock Market club & the computer club. He plans to attend the College of NJ in the fall.
